Miss Landmine 2008

05Mar08

There are currently no landmine survivors’ networks directed specifically towards women in Angola so a network of rehabilitation programmes has set up The Miss Landmine project as a possible way to help support people who affected by landmines.

The organisers are hoping that each participant will be assigned as a Miss Landmine representative in her own province, with responsibilities of coordinating and providing information and assistance to other women in the same situation and monitoring ways of empowerment, such as education and specialized health care.

They are hopeful that the pageant, taking place in Luanda, Angola on April 4th, 2008, will fuel national and international interest in the issue of landmines. You can read more about the problemof landmines in Angola (and other countries) on the Electronic Mine Information Network.
